Description

The aim of this presentation is to introduce the commonly prescribed psychotropic medications, the rationale for their use, a general overview of the common and serious side effects and then close on the importance of care coordination. Part of my treatment philosophy is to listen, educate and empower not only the member and their family, but other treatment team members as well. A member’s full continuum of care may be comprised of medication management, various forms of therapy, peer services, case management and family engagement with all components being equally critical. As a prescriber, I recognize that other team members see the individual more frequently than the prescribers. Therefore, you may observe possible medication-related changes well before the next med management appointment. It is important that these concerns are communicated with the prescriber as we know that earlier intervention may decrease the risk of a bad outcome.

This presentation will provide education, improve awareness and add resources. This will hopefully impact the provider in a positive manner that allows for more collaborative practices between providers and with members. The goal is for this information to trickle down in a way that make all feel a little more empowered and, therefore, have a positive impact on providers, members and others.
