Description

Obtaining prior authorization for services can be a challenging task for a clinician. This skill is not taught in any social service or counseling program, yet in the world of behavioral health it is often a requirement to obtain services. Being able to concisely and effectively convey relevant clinical information to a managed care company allows clinicians and agencies to efficiently obtain the needed services for their clients. This course will help clinicians and paraprofessionals understand what information is required and how to convey that information in relation to medical necessity.

Participants will:

  1. Develop an understanding of prior authorization as it relates to Optum Idaho
  2. Become familiar with Level of Care Guidelines, Medical Necessity and how to document it
  3. Develop an understanding of benefits and importance of documenting an individualized discharge plan
